Project Statement

In the middle of everything, you are drawn to an unexpected oracle. It calls to you because its story has chosen you: one that’s meant to be shared with you at this exact time, in this exact place.

Trust yourself and choose your oracle, for it has already chosen you.

Found Oracles is an online, interactive storytelling site that features a constellation of surreal and unexpected oracles from the everyday world. The oracles know who needs their stories - they always find the people who align with what they have to share.

Those who interact with the Found Oracles select the card that calls to them from the site’s oracle library. How they choose may differ from person to person: by the card’s image, title, or object symbolism represented via digital collage on its face. The oracle they select carries an intuitive story that has chosen them back. When they click their chosen card, its story opens and the oracle speaks.

The stories the oracles tell are immersive, placing the participant as the main character and contextualizing their visit to the oracle immediately with humor and surreal irreverence before diving into a narrative of collective yet deeply individual human experience. The oracles take the participant and their journey seriously, but not much else.

These stories serve to celebrate the ways their recipients move in the world, help people to see themselves more clearly, and remind us of our deep connections to ourselves, to the world around us, and to all that is.

Each story card in the Found Oracles library is concepted, collaged, designed, and written by me. The story website itself is also my solo creation - I architect, design, write, and maintain its experience, interactions, and interfaces myself. New cards and their stories are added weekly, then shared for public interaction via my social channels and communication platforms.

Artist Project Statement

The stories we tell ourselves become the plot lines that shape our individual lives and form our collective realities. I believe that we need stories that help us see ourselves and our connection to the world more clearly, give us words for our experiences - even the tough ones - and encourage us to celebrate ourselves more.

My work, including Found Oracles, aims to tell these types of stories by creating surprising encounters with the cosmic in the everyday, colliding the mythic with the modern, and putting playful twists on familiar formats. As if you have suddenly and unexpectedly come across the magic seam that runs just beneath the surface of the seemingly mundane.

An intuitive, light-hearted, and slightly surreal approach to personal and collective storytelling allows humor to lead the way, opening the door for truth to walk right in behind it. However, it’s important to me that the truths found in my stories don't ask you to criticize, question, or "fix" yourself. Instead the stories invite you to consider: What good fortune is yours just because you are you? The story that chooses you is there to remind you of the good fortune it is to be connected to yourself, to others, to the world around you, and to all that is.
